Chouette order rule - has anyone played this way? How common/uncommon is it?

19. If the captain's cube is dropped by the box, the next person in the team plays for the captain. If the team wins, the dropped captain takes the box. [emphasis added] If the box wins the dropped captain goes to the bottom of the team as normal.

21. Even if the new captain (under Rule 19) loses they remain as captain for the next game. If the new captain wins then they [sic] become the box, [empahsis added] and the former box goes to the bottom of the team.

I am having trouble making sense of these rules, and I don’t mean just the plural pronoun. There seems to be a direct conflict between the two rules.
