Understanding Backgammon Position #65

Candlestick Park! I hate these kinds of positions and it seems that 54 (and 51, damn you, you miserable cur of a roll!) are so often at the bottom of them. My tendency in the past is to run a back man to the midpoint but it seems that is almost always wrong. It's awful to stack those candlesticks even higher but I think you have little choice. I'd minimize the damage (hopefully) by playing two down from the midpoint. Most of the hitting numbers won't cover that blot (33 and 44 is all I think). I hate that it divides our army but the alternatives seem worse.
