In Response To: Early game decision, early in the match (Chuck Bower)

As I said in the thread about annotated matches, one problem I have with them is the (often) lack of discussion for reasonable plays. This one comes from about the 5th roll in the Kleinman-Ortega book covering three of Neil's matches. It garnered all of one sentence, saying a rollout (presumably JF) had 24/21, 17/15 better than 24/22 17/14 (Tardieu's choice) by 0.038.

The match was from 1999 and the book's copyright is 2001. They say in the intro that they used both JF and SW to analyze positions.

So, why no mention of 13/8? Maybe neither JF 3.5 or SW3 had this among their top plays? Yeh, right. At 2-ply evaluation, 13/8 was GNU-bg's choice.

I think the 13/11 plays deserve at least a sentence and the other three a lot more than that.

OK, now I'll post a GNU-bg rollout.
