I presented some minor results in Stick's thread about how to play 1-1. He said hitting was clear with three on the 8-point and spares on the 9- and 11-points. I moved the spare from the 9-point to the 8-point (so now four on the 8-point) and GNU-bg 4-ply eval had hitting a whopper (correct to make the four prime by adding the 5- and 7-points). That reminded me how valuable this type of exercise can be.

As far as rollouts go, maybe during a few hour studying session, take the two or three most questionable situations and roll those out overnight. (Quad core is helpful here. :) Of course some are better at defining "questionable". Maybe take ones which look close and see if they really are close. Those with really good instincts on where bots err might key in on those kinds of positions. But I think one should avoid the tendency (that I have) to start rolling out the first questionable situation, unless you have multiple computers (/processors). You want to spend time looking at positions, not waiting for the bot to finish a rollout.
