Candidates are 8/7, 8/6 and 4/1, and 10/7. How badly does Blue want to hold the prime? White is getting close to crunch-zone. 4/1 does open up some more G losses for Blue I would think.
Both anchors are blocked for 5's. Giving up the 10 point allows White 5's from the front anchor so that is probably out. Giving up the 8-point gives White 5's off the back anchor.
Does the fact that the 4-point and 10-point are both made make it more likely for 4/1 to be correct? I would think so, but "more likely to make correct" obviously isn't the same as "is correct".
I'm sure I'd rationalize that White has some playability even when s/he can't escape and than play 8/7, 8/6. But having this problem flagged reminds me that 4/1 is playing to win while clearing the 8- looks like "playing not to lose". Justice is to play not to lose (the G) and getting G'ed anyway.
I don't think I'd see 4/1 as the right play OtB but I don't spend 12 hours everyday playing games like SOME people we all know.
