...When you look at a Van Gogh painting, do you think "what a complete raving lunatic of an artist"?

Well, now that you mention it, it's hard to get out of one's mind the story about him cutting off his ear and sending it to the woman who rejected him. His painting that comes to my mind most (next to Starry Night) is a self-portrait....

Sometimes geniuses are child prodigies. Sometimes they are mentally ill. Sometimes they say and do irrational things. Fisher was all of the above. One would like to remember him only for his positive accomplishments but that's difficult considering his most recent public actions weren't so endearing. Maybe time will heal those wounds.
