I think it would be very hard to make another play. Not make the 4 point from the incredibly stacked 8 pt? Leave the two men back on the bar when pulling ahead in the race? The downside are the two stripped outfield points, but they seem like the lesser evil. At least it is much easier to clear the 14 than the 18.

More systematic, if you do make the 4 point the alternatives to 14(2) are 9(2) which isolates the back men, and 2 4 that might set off an attack, but really an attack is not your main game plan with your race lead and our better board. 14(2) must be better than either.

Also if you take 14(2) the alternatives are either 10(2) or 9(2). Good things can be said, they do follow the right plan - get them home. However passing up the 4 point, leaving the stack? Does not seem right, but would be my 2nd choice.

Doing neither, playing 5(2), is obviously too high a price for preferring the 5 to the 4.
