I'd disqualify both players, other semifinalists play for 1st/2nd, remaining 4 quarterfinalists get to play short 4 man tournament - 1-pointer if necessary - for the remaining $75 - unless they all agree to share or toss or whatever.

On the other hand, how come he wasn't already ensured 1st in the side pool? Being the one who has progressed farthest in the main tournament among those who entered, I'd think he would just get it anyway?
