So my 3 candidate plays are 18/14(2) 13/9(2), 18/10(2), and 18/14 13/5 8/4.
The second one seems to be out because it's less close to home, leaves a gap stays in a 6-away holding game, and doesn't block Blue's 6s coming out.
18/14(2) 13/9(2) is the normal play in this kind of position, but it's also horribly stripped and stacked, and with no homeboard points White may just end up blotting soon anyway. Between your play and 18/14(2) 13/9(2), it's a tough call, but I'd make your play. It starts to unstack the heavy 8 and may end up chasing the guy on the 22 point out, which helps out the timing. It might be in whopper county, though. If I wanted to go with the play that wouldn't be wrong by much I'd go with 18/14(2) 13/9(2).
My preference, though, is for 18/14 13/5 8/4. It pretty much does everything. It starts to make a really good board and gets off the anchor, which is going to become a problem in the future. Next turn White can cover and attack inside, or he can bring the outfield around, as the dice allow. And you can laugh at us after we roll 53 or 54.
