10% +- 2 pips. I.e. If roller's lead is 10% - 2 pips it's an initial double, 10% - 1 pip it's a redouble, and 10% + 2 pips is borderline take/pass. In your example 100 to 108 would be an inital double, 100 to 109 would be a redouble, 100 to 112 would be borderline take/pass. So 100 to 110 is a double/redouble and a take.
Another method -- the Keith Count (google 'Backgammon Galore') -- has become fairly popular since Tom Keith derived it a few years ago. Take a look at it.
I use multiple methods depending upon the length of the race and the distribution of checkers. The one I illustrated above is good for reasonable distributions (no bad stacks or unfillable gaps) for pre-bearoff races.
