You're right. They developed in parallel but then each one rendered them differently. However, I think the initial ideas (discovering the alien artifact on the moon, aliens pushing humans technologically, etc.) were from various Clarke stories. So even though technically this might not qualify I think it is in the spirit of the OP. Kubrick's film version is better than the novel (and the book is not a novelization of the film).
