The gaps are not gauranteed to be filled. The checkers on the 7 and 8 points might need to be moved to the low points.

If blue had only those three checkers on the 7 and 8 points to cross over, then yes, gaps are a problem. But not so much with two more checkers in the far outfield, I believe.
