Yes, you won your bet. Gary was not a previous winner and he won the tourament. However, I BOUGHT GARY IN THE CALCUTTA! So I was not at all unhappy about his win.

At the same time, is there anyone in the backgammon world that would not have loved to see Ben win? He's a great guy and gives much of himself to the game, and I am proud to have been his first teacher. He's done well and he is a real star and will certainly be a Giant some day.

Gary knocked me out of the tournament after I had a strong start, and I was very impressed with his game...solid every step of the way.

As for playing over 10 in the finals, as Howard Ring once told me, what really matters is a) if you win and b) how you played compared to your opponent.

Can I justify a no-double .100 error if I get my opponent to drop? As Kit said yesterday when asked that question: "Hell yes!"
