I think we will. Comfortably. I disagree with the premise that you need to have adult experiences and perspectives. Backgammon at its core is a game of numbers. Set the right mind on the path at the right age, and it will happen.
I actually have two kids. Neither play. I have chosen to wait to teach them. Both of them are very intelligent (I'm biased, but its true), and I think could comfortably pick up the game, and given a number of years of dedication may well fit the mold. However, I dont want to do that to my kids - that feels like it would be unfair to them. Why? Well, I couldnt say really, but I dont want my kids obsessing over backgammon when they could be outside obsessing over sand or swimming, or playing with their friends.
