I agree that white has a good chance of making his duece-point. White will likely have to run on 23 numbers next shake and eight of those 23 will give him an option of making the duece-point. Most of the other 13 numbers make the duece as well. That said, it is not the same as having the duece already. There is not only greater liability in hitting flyshots until the duece is made, getting part way home with doubles is less effective and having to choose whether to cover the duece or do something else on the eight numbers that run with an option to cover is limiting.

I think white's wins often come after he escapes a man and is not hit and then escapes the other, he escapes a man and gets hit, but hits back and blue fails to perform, or he rolls a big double. In most of these scenarios, having the duece-point already made would be beneficial.
