I am glad I get to vote on this position, I thought it was interesting from the outset. Thank you to those that welcomed me to the team.
My first instinct with this position was the loose hit 13/3*. The race is close enough not to dictate a running play and 24/14 does nothing else but try and race. If we were a few more pips ahead (in an otherwise analogous position) I think running would be best. Here, I'm not convinced the race should dictate our play so looking elsewhere is reasonable.
8/2 6/2 is tricky for me (and a lot of us I guess). I talk myself into 8/2 6/2 on an opening 64 if I need to, but making a disjointed low point early isn't my favourite thing to do. Here, making the point has to be a lot better than an opening 64. Our made 5pt makes the 2pt look a lot less lonely IMO and if 8/2 6/2 is close to 24/14 on an opening 64 it looks better to make the point here.
Hit or make a point... I don't know. Making the 2pt looks safer since he has a 3 point board made where we have only 2. However, the loose hit, which fights for a key point and gains a tempo feels more thematic to me.
I'll go with instinct, 13/3* for me.
