If you search meetup.com for backgammon in San Francisco you will encounter a small group of intermediates with whom I sometimes play. Of course, there are no clocks at this meetup. Since I introduced the idea of using only one set of dice, however, it has become the preferred mode of play. We tap anywhere, usually on the board rather than the bar.
