A good use for the old analogue chess clocks..
You simply turn the clock away from the board, and use the plungers as normal.
In fact, players could use a proper Bronstein clock on the correct settings like this (turned away), and stop the time between games, to simply practice playing with a clock. Then when the game is over, they turn around the clock and see their total time consumption.
After a couple of games like this, you're ready to go.
