I think slotting looks best too. It keeps flexibility and dupes 2's. Worst case scenario he rolls 42 and you're still well in the game with that 4-prime and his Swiss cheese board. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if the safer 9/7 9/6 is right but I hate stacking the 6-point like that. The take isn't the question as far as the cube. You won't be doubled since it's DMP.
