Ed thought about this...

In Response To: Ed thought about this... (Colin Owen)

At our level, Ed and I play each other at almost every tournament it seems.

We both knew instinctively what I should do if he redoubled, but Ed is a PR guy and he didn't want to MISS a redouble he should give. So he started cogitating.

Sometimes when you are playing an unknown quantity, or someone with less experience like Julius High, (my buddy and student so I know he won't mind me mentioning his name especially since he WON this event), you can send it quickly and let HIM do the calculations!

Then you might get a mistaken pass. Ed knew his customer, but he is a slave to the numbers so he pondered it. It might have cost him giving me a 7 minute time advantage if the match had gone on longer. In the end, he did the right things, and ultimately the small mistake he made on the 2 roll position was very slight.

Ed would certainly have been okay after his decisions in this game, even if I tossed a double with a 16 cube to win the match. He would have regretted it, of course, but realized that he made a mistake and lost because of it which is okay, in a way!

Ed is a consummate pro, and a great competitor. We all like to make fun of the guy we used to call "lightning" Ed O'Laughlin because he played so slowly.
