Gears

The choices seem to be:
1. 13/7, which creates a nice blockading point with excellent chances of making a five-prime if we are not hit;
2. 11/5, which reduces shots and keeps the midpoint but at the cost of putting our checkers where it's harder to use them to improve our forward position;
3. 7/1*, which takes away half of White's roll and creates some attacking chances.
Let's count shots. After 13/7, White hits with any direct 3 or 5, plus 21 and 41 (24 shots). After 11/5, White hits with any direct 6, plus 51 42 33 (16 shots). After 7/1*, White hits with any direct 1, as well as 32 33 43 (16 shots).
Between 7/1* and 11/5, I prefer 7/1* because it leaves the same number of shots but seems to have a better upside if we're not hit. Between 13/7 and 7/1* I'm not sure. I like our structure better after 13/7 but 8 extra shots seems a lot. I'll try 7/1*.
