Breaking the 8pt is an interesting idea, but I'll throw my hat in the ring with the 6/4 6/2* crowd. It's true that 6/4 6/2* doesn't give Black quite as many rolls that crack immediately, but it still gives quite a few, and I think it's premature to give up on trying to keep our own six-prime.
