How do we promote the game?

I was waiting hoping someone else would pipe up who honestly disagreed or at least wanted to play devil's advocate. Nobody has so I'll take the dark side.
While I agree with your sentiment to an extent, I would much rather have dirty laundry aired and judge for myself than for everything to be kept hush hush. One of the magnificent parts of these forums is that everyone who wants one has a voice. We can see past dealings and actions of participants of the rather small and tight knit backgammon world. I feel like there have been some advancements and improvements to backgammon thanks to everything being aired here.
Thinking about getting into a business proposition with Andy Bell? Search the forums and see what comes up and how you feel about it. Wondering how someone specifically has acted in what can be seen as a grey area speaking of ethical backgammon? Have a look see. Wondering if you should play bg online for money against the ever rampant cheat that is Stick? Take a look at the posts and decide for yourself.
It can get ugly. No doubt about that. In such a small community where money is involved and over the years there have been continuing problems between players it's bound to happen. One thing happens and then from there on out the two players involved harbor ill feelings and they both look for flaws in the other player and it gets worse and worse and worse. They of course share these stories with friends and it snowballs. Still, I'd rather be in the know having the information available to me that Ray and Paul get along almost as well as oil and water.
If you think that drama or negative press doesn't add interest I suggest you look at almost any game/sport. I was amazed at how many people tuned in to watch Bill Phipps and myself play and somewhat confused at how many people thought afterwards that I would be in a state of eternal bliss that he had a bad match and I had a decent one.
