I met Herb at one of the first tournaments I ever traveled to and we became instant friends and stayed good friends throughout the years. He was a perfect gentleman and great sport and kind person to all.

Not long ago he criticized brutally and unfairly on this forum for upholding the rules properly in a non-legal moves situation. I defended him and his upholding of the rules...he did it not because he was an unfair or mean-spirited person, but because he respected the rules and the game. He never once spoke out to defend himself or offer excuses; he simply knew he had done the right thing, while people with less knowledge and experience criticized him. He always took the high road.
