Agreed there's a bit of guilt by association here, but he just doesn't meet the "I wouldn't mind watching a game with him over a few beers" criterion. To be honest, there are so few good announcers these days that I'll almost always turn the audio off. I'm certain that a few of my brain cells die every time I hear a simple end-around referred to as a reverse for instance. I can't listen to John Madden under any circumstances whatsoever; there oughta be a picture of him next to "bloviate" in the Dictionary. I grew up listening to Vin Scully, Jerry Doggett, and Chick Hearn in L.A. so maybe I just have unrealistic expectations.
