Very nice writeup, Bill.

For those who don't know Jon, he's been playing the circuit for many years. His name may be familiar as his father's invitational backgammon tournament (The Vietor Cup) was mentioned somewhere in Barclay Cooke's books. (Cooke was not only an attendee but a multiple winner, if I recall correctly.) In fact, with the suggestion/encouragement of Steve Sax and the directorship of Patrick Gibson, Jon resurrected the long dormant tournament (as has been written up by Steve in the Flint Area Backgammon News).

Jon happens to be an accomplished artist (painter) -- something probably very few BG players are aware of -- not the least due to his modesty. Jon is both sincere person and a sincerely nice guy. Congrats to him for winning not only the Open Main but calmly pairing with the ever impetuous Greg Merriman to take the doubles crown.
