What is your DMP PR?

Your approach generally seems sound to me. I have just a couple of reactions to what you said:
As I'm nearing that goal, I'd like to gauge where I am with respect to what others are doing. It's true that my ultimate measure is against myself, but even a golfer wants to know what "par" is.
I'd agree that it's nice to know what "par" is, but I would still recommend keeping a clear separation between your own training procedures and what other people's performance is. I don't play golf, but if I were to start, I'm sure that knowing what "par" is for a hole would be next to useless to me. As a beginner, I have a million other things to think about that are more important. Even if I get better, the primary value of knowing the "par" value is to help me judge my chances in competition. It's not something that is fruitful to focus on for coaching purposes.
Whether PR = 5 is "reasonable" depends entirely on how likely it is for you to reach it. What good does it do to learn that the top players have a DMP PR of 1.5 or whatever? Or that a lot of players out there have a DMP PR of 8? Nothing, I would claim. That's just not relevant information for your training regimen.
training myself to slow down and look for the "second best play," for example
As I mentioned in the post that I linked to, I find that my "stupid" errors tend to fall into certain categories. Until I started cataloguing the stupid plays, I didn't know what those patterns were. Once I identified certain classes of errors that I was likely to make, that was half the battle.
