By passive learning I mean simply watching a lesson, seminar or reading a book/article. I think of this as edutainment.
examples...
Phil Simborg has created more great videos than I can count posted on the usbgf site and the usbgf facebook site. I am thoroughly entertained by them. If I don't open up my board and XG and work through variations of the positions and give them a good think they don't generally stick, as opposed to Stick.
Another example. I have likely gone through Roberties Advanced 1 & 2 and 501 a dozen times but I have never studied the positions and their variations until I know them cold.
Or... How many times have I read an article on Neil's Numbers (now Neil's New Numbers) or the 5 point match but I cant tell you my take points at match score without looking at a table.
Or.. Second roll responses... I know most of the easy ones but still make the split vs down decision wrong regularily because I haven't worked them through till they are facts I know.
EPC same deal... I have read numerous articles yet I don't have it at my fingertips.
If I prepared for a couple of weeks and presented on any one of these topics (active) I would know the material and be able to use it in my game.
