Hitting is good for the race, and it may eliminate any further contact even though it would seem to promote it. If the alternative is leaving a shot now, you can do nearly as well by paying later. 66 eliminates contact and 65 spoils it for Richard. 1/6 of the time Stick's next roll will be a double, so he ought to get hit 1/3 of the other 5/6, 5/18. To maximize contact Richard may have to sacrifice his board. 5/18 is less than 3/10, (the ace shot),now and it reduces the effects of 66, 55, and 44 on the race.
