Congrats to both Thomas and Marty. I do not know Thomas, but I do know Marty well and have had the pleasure of playing him quite a bit recently in both doubles and singles. My partner and I got lucky both times in the doubles against Marty and Mary Hickey and we won, and I know we got lucky because they outplayed us by 2 PR the first match and by more the second...don't have the match and not sure, but I know both teams played poorly that second match.

In head up play I have not been so fortunate against Marty...with his playing skill I would have to get very lucky to win.

But I do want to say that it is a pleasure to see Marty back and playing more frequently not just because he is a great player, but because he is a wonderful sport, win or lose, and he simply adds a lot to the backgammon scene by his kind, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable approach to the game. He is always willing to share his thinking and is simply a very nice guy.

It's great to see that you can be a top player and also be a nice guy. Unfortunately, that is not always the case in our highly-competitive game that seems to attract some real nutcases...Marty is not one of them!
