6-away will probably need to play more games to win the match than 3-away will need to win the match. But however many more games there are in the match, both opponents just as needily need to sit and play those games. If you lead 24-1/25 when a clock is put on the match, and your opponent wins the next ten games, say, your need for time in those ten games is no less than your opponent's.
