Regardless, I think it unfair to put a clock on a match in the middle of a match. If we can't clock all matches then at least identify the known, repeat offender slow players and clock all of their matches.

It is not fair to let a match go on for two hours with some moron taking ten minutes on every difficult position and five minutes on every obvious position and then turn around and put them both on a clock. What if the normally fast player coincidentally has a number of difficult positions after the clock was instituted? He can't now take the time the other guy took early in the match.

And it's to the slow player's benefit to do exactly that -- play slow. He is never penalized by it. He perhaps frustrates the hell out of his opponent. And when the clock is instituted he has the same time as the other guy.

Use a clock on all matches !!!!

Or, as far as I'm concerned, drum the slow players out of the game.
