Enough clocks for all the Masters and all the Open matches running at a given moment would require a prohibitive investment for many directors

32 clocks at bulk price (Saitek Competition Pro Game Clock III or Excalibur Game Timer II) @ $32.99/clock = $1,056

An idea: add $20 to the registration fee. Rebate $20 to any player who shows up with his own clock. Offer to sell clocks to any player without one for $20.

Another idea: Add $10 to the registration fee. Rebate $10 to any player who shows up with his own clock. Sell clocks to any player who wants to buy one for $30. With this option, pretourney out-of-pocket expense for 32 clocks would be $1,056, less $640 from the additional registration fee (full field), less $7 profit on any clock sold. Run the same deal at two tournaments and you (your players, actually!) have more than paid for your clocks. Start now, and by 2010 (1) every TD would have an adequate supply of clocks (2) most Open players would own one.
