drawsheet mishaps, or not

what is the purpose of a draw sheet? is it to assure that the highest seeds have the best chance for making the final? if that is the aim, then perhaps the "mishaps" deserve more looking into. i have always thought that the winner of the event should be the one that won the most matches (or at least the timeliest ones) rather than looking at the field and predetermining a winner. especially, when the predetermination is set by something as irrelevant as performance in an unrelated previous event. i am a fan of completely random draw sheets, at least there is no bickering about whom should be playing whom --- the last thing a director needs to worry about when putting together a LC event. there is already a tremendous luck factor in the game of bg, why try to buck this trend?
