Y2K and Warming

I had an ATM card that was supposed to expire in 1999, but due to a clerical error, was stamped 49 instead of 99. It worked, so the machine was not interpreting it as 1949, but rather as 2049.

Doesn't necessarily follow, and doesn't necessarily address all the Y2K problems (e.g. programs would sometimes divide by the current year, which causes problems when it's 00).

I'm fairly certain that Y2K didn't spring up out of (solely) mass hysteria, but some things were actually tested and did fail. Luckily, however, it didn't set off the doomsday device.
