If the game is already decided often the play gives no difference in equity and is not an extra decision.
I don't see why letting the small PR changes be up to the whims of randomness is any better than Stick's method. Why not just transcribe what actually occurred over the board giving a reasonable last play if needed (such as in the case of a gammon saving last play that is not actually made).
