Can using the auto bearoff setting ever be cheating?

Say you roll a 6-1 in a bearoff where the 6 is forced but there are many ways to play a 1 (none of which bears off a checker).

With definition #1, the computer should at least force me to play my 1 manually. With definition #2, the computer plays the 1 optimally and automatically...this is the scenario I believe I encountered on GammonSite.
