Memorizing backgammon positions

At minimum, it seems to me that Stick's claim that it would be "easily" doable is pure rhetoric. If it were easy, wouldn't a couple of grand be enough?
Just because something is easily doable doesn't mean the time involved isn't significant or, as most of us expressly said or implied, the desire has to be there. It's silly for me to spend the time it would require just to prove it could be done for so little money. I could use that time doing a number of other things and make way more cash so what's in it for me? I don't care to prove it to anyone else, it's not a doubt in my mind. I have memorized some things in my past that are similar, for example all the second roll replies. Far fewer for sure, but I have a process down already.
I've done the world capitals too myself because I like geography to a degree and it seemed like it would be worth it for my trivia nights. Things like this are easy to do, like the 2nd rolls, like the 3rd rolls, you have to break up the information into small pieces. Learn a small piece, move on to the next piece, review the first piece while learning the second piece, after that is learned move on to the third piece, review the 1st and 2nd pieces ad nauseum. Eventually the early pieces won't need to be reviewed and you can drop them from the curriculum. I don't know if this is the best way to do it but it's how I do it and it works well for me.
As for Koca's alternate test, I don't know if I'd be willing to do this. I'd have to hear the details. My entire premise was built around Timothy basically saying a memory expert would do better (crush me/us) after a couple/few months study than I (or others) would on the common 3rd rolls.
