I try hard in general not to use abbreviations or poker terms that would confuse the casual reader but I failed, sorry. What I meant by 'he plays his hand open after the flop' is you know what he has. If he raises with AK preflop and misses he'll check it and you can bet and take the pot. If he raises with a big pair and all undercards come he'll make a solid bet. If an overcard comes to his pair, he has JJ or QQ and an ace esp. or a king flops, he'll likely check the flop. Etc...
