You are 11 pips down in the race after the roll, so if you play to the mid and White enters, you are in danger of white escaping and entering a race he is winning. If you make the bar, you leave immediate 11, 22, 21 and 62 jokers (you might still win afterwards), but if you survive that, you are poised to make a 6 prime and crush all resistance.

So the why for leaving the jokers should be clear. Whether the benefits exceed the costs is a more difficult thing to assess.
