As of early this morning there is 142 in the Open but there are surely going to be a few stragglers.

The calcutta will feature 4-man teams. They arbitrarily separated the players with the top 25 percent in one group, the next 25 percent in the next, and then all the rest in the third group.

They put one player for the first group, 1 from the 2nd group, and 2 from the 3rd group together, so there should be fairly balanced teams. A couple of the 3-man teams are headed by Mochy and Michy but there will probably be a straggler added to their teams.

I usually try to buy my team or buy back, but this year I probably won't because John Rockwell is on my team.

It was great to see Ronnie Rubin win The Monte Carlo Open, beating Chris Rogers in the finals.

I'm still taking bets that an American will win the World Championship, and I will still take 7-1 odds, especially since I see that Ronnie Rubin is a force once again. (And last night I gave some lessons to Victor and Ed O'Laughlin and Joe Russell and Matt Reklaitis and Carter, and to help bolster their confidence I even let them win a little money from me.)

We played chouettes and props and matches on my new P40 board with the new dice scrambler, and, ask anyone, I doubt there has ever been more buzz about a new backgammon board or product in the history of the game. I had 6 boards shipped here to sell and they are all gone...if I had 20 more they would also be gone, and of course many people are going to the web site to customize and buy their own. If I had 50 dice scramblers they would be gone. It's really fun to be a part of something so special and appreciated by the backgammon community. www.p40bg.com

As I was typing this Sean Williams walked by and asked me what odds I would give him that an English player would win, and I gave him 12-1 and we made the bet. (How can people who can't even spell or talk right possibly be that smart?)
