Ken gave you the best approach. As for PR v. ER, I am proud to say that when we started XG I came up with the term Performance Rating and Xavier liked it.
In the past ER, or error rate, was used by Snowie, but there was a major flaw in that your errors were divided by all your moves, whether they were forced moves or not. So if you made 1 error and the rest of your moves you were on the bar and never had a decision, you would have a very low (good) ER.
With XG you do not gain when you have a forced move...it simply doesn't count, so you are getting a true rating of your performance. PR measures how much equity you have given away as a result of making plays or cube decisions that are less than what XG considers to be optimal.
The lower the better...if you play perfectly you play at 0 PR; the best players in the world average under 3.0 PR.
It is a very good indication of skill, in spite of the fact that we all agree that XG is not perfect and will not always be entirely right, but it is the best guide we have to performance at this time.
