I probably would say that there are 2 cubes in play, on either side of the board, both on 2. The person who was last (re-)cubed (A in Albert's labeling) can cube to 4; the other (B) can only use his cube after A recubes and B take.

At least this will make it difficult for A and B to figure out their give and take points - serves them right for creating this mess!
