Old man yells at cloud. “Go back to the classic game” Playing without a cube or the rules you mentioned would do nothing to get new players interested in the game. I understand your point in regards to gambling, I've heard an excellent player in our club say he wouldn't teach his grandchildren to play the game because of the gambling aspect. That's obviously not good for the game when someone with so many years of experience playing doesn't want to pass on the game they love to their own grandchildren. That being said there needs to be some type of balance struck. I really enjoy what Jeb did last weekend with the novice and advanced players being able to enter for a small fee (Novice was free) and choose optional side pools. That's great to attract players to the game but at some point they will have to understand the game at its highest level is played for money, either via entry fee or in cash games.
