You should be dinged twice because what you describe is not the same position -- only similar.

Let me ask you how you feel about the following situation:

1. Your opponent is on the bar against a closed board.
2. No gammon for either side (just to make it simplier).
3. You are on the bar against 5pt board.
4. Not doubling is a 0.3 error.
So, do you think every time you dance you should be dinged 0.3? What if you danced 10 times? Do you loose 3.0 emg? Your emg is always between -1 and +1 -- a difference of 2. Your opponent cannot make any errors while on the bar against closed out. So, how can you lose 3.0 if you have (at most) 2.0 to play with?
