Did not see this when it was first posted but the results don't surprise me too much. In doing my own analysis of like positions, it seems the best reaction to staying in a four point board with two hitters waiting to strike (at not too much cost since I have no board) is - usually - 'be afraid'. Also does not surprise me too much that with the 'one hitter' variant that you can stick around.

My bet is that this changes slightly if a) bottom has a slightly better inner board and/or b) the two top back men were better positioned to escape (or one had already escaped). With respect to b) that guy on 1 provides bottom a little comfort that top is not home free yet.
