Humans vs XG

We've been discussing this over at rgb. The problem is that this isn't real backgammon. When it's time to play the human turn, the choice is to either double or play the dice as shown. If the choice is to double, the dice are re-rolled.

Sounds way too complicated - how do you decide if the roll is bad enough that you want to push the cube to get a re-roll?
