Ed Bennett 1936-2016

To add to your reminiscence of 2009, Ed did more than just win Novi (a significant accomplishment by itself). He ended up 3rd in the ABT that year, behind Ray Fogerlund and a flash-in-the-pan who almost never plays anymore. Here are a couple links:

Ed was a throwback to backgammon in 60's & 70's in many ways. He loved the game, was very generous, and most of all was a super nice person (this last trait made him a cut above many of the earlier era). Ed was a researcher and historian, investigating the origin of the doubling cube by going through archives of NY clubs that existed in the 1920's. He traveled extensively. Both times I've made it to the MCWC he was there and we enjoyed a dinner with many friends (Ed picking up the check, as was his frequent practice).
As is always the case, I wish I had a chance to say 'goodbye'. I miss him already. He won't soon be forgotten.
