In Response To: Legal Move (Redouble) ? (Dan Wittkopp)

As you might have guessed, this question has been discussed before several times on BGO. This isn't meant to be an exhaustive list, but for example:

Back in 2013

Again in 2014

Yet again in 2014

More recently, PINO pointed out that this sort of redouble is explicitly ruled out by the EUBGFED rules.

As for the ABT rule, it is unfortunately rather poorly worded. I suspect that the intent of the ABT rule was to say that a cube cannot be turned if its value is high enough for the player holding the cube to win the match simply by winning the game with the cube at its current value, as the USBGF and EUBGFED rules say. Unfortunately, that's not what the ABT rule actually says. It refers to a situation where the cube level is high enough to ensure that the match will end with the current game, which means that it's effectively DMP, because to ensure that the match will end with the current game, the match must end no matter which player wins. But in that case, no harm can possibly be done by redoubling. The ABT rule as stated is therefore pointless (which is why I think that the intent was something else).
