Here is a better example; 2nd roll 54, which I will present without a complete explanation. We are inclined to run at DMP and try for an advanced anchor at GS. In contrast to my 31P-33 DMP example, I have had many opportunities to run with 54 on the 2nd roll at DMP. It is rarely the best choice at other scores. This is the type of choice which will occur with some frequency later in the game. Careful study of the table below with give us some understanding of when the fundamentals are overridden by other considerations. Of course, having the nacbrac handy makes this data even more illuminating. I will also note that when trying to learn principles, unlikely positions can be helpful in building our understanding. That's why I have rolled all four scores for all 30 opening moves in my database.

For each 1st roll, the best roll for money / DMP / GS are presented.

41S - X / R / S

51S - S / R / S

61P - S / R / S

54S - S / S / S

52D - D / R / D

21S - S / R / R

41$ - S / R / S

51$ - S / R / S

54D - D / R / D

64P - D / D / D

53P - S / S / S

21$ - S / R / R

42P - S / S / S

52S - S / S / S

65R - S / S / S
